How Much is My Old Truck Worth?

As the publisher of a website about old trucks I receive a lot of mail request me how much is a superior truck worth these days. Believe it or not, this is one tough ask to answer.
First of all let me say that I don't know how much my truck is worth. I know what I paid for my truck and what I have spent restoring it. But to be honest with you I can't say that if I sold it today I would get all that back.

That's basically what happens with most old truck owners. They spend money rebuilding and restoring and they don't think about selling the trucks they have. They want to show their trucks and have fun with them, not sell them.

So, the real value of an old truck depends basically on two things: how bad the buyer wants to have it and how reluctant the jobber is to sell.

It is leading to say that the shop for old truck is not growing because they are not making them anymore. If anyone the shop is shrinking because a whole of trucks that still run are not being cared for and are arrival to the end of their lives.

But let me explicate one thing: I am not saying that it would be impossible for you to find out exactly how much your truck is worth. You can do some research and find a similar car and take that as a basis for you to estimation how much your truck is worth. The other truck will have to be more or less in the same health yours is in, of course.

But the best way to find out the real value of a superior car or old truck is to look for habitancy who are recognized as estimators and who do this on a quarterly basis. A good source of specialists is the Aaca, or aged Automobile Club of America. They have chapters all over the country and many of their members are recognized estimators who de facto know what they are doing. They do a great job and they help a lot of habitancy all the time. But this service is not free so be prepared to pay for it.

Whatever the whole of money involved here the main thing is to know that an old truck is a good speculation that doesn't depreciate as much as any new vehicle. Also, if you have a superior car or old truck and you want to sell it, take your time because it's roughly impossible to sell a superior car on the spur of the moment, unless your price is very low and you are able to find a buyer who has the money or the prestige available.

And if you are a buyer, take your time too because a good deal in this area is hard to come by.

  1. One important key in selling your truck is to know its market value. Like cars, trucks have an estimate value depending on the size, make, or model. The wise thing to do is to give your vehicle an assessment, so you would know the value of your vehicle and give it the right price. Make an effort to learn how the process of selling vehicle really goes.
